Encounters: final piece

This is my final piece for the encounters topic. I used oil paints to create both abstract and realistic effects on the same piece and used one of my photos from Scarborough harbour.

Boats batik

I did a batik version of my final piece aswell. I used lots of layers of wax to create the water effect and the batik has now been hung on a window so the light can shine through the different layers.

Finished prep sheet

This is my finished prep sheet with all of my 'Encounters' prep on.

Biro art history

An art history copy using inks and biro. I liked the detail on the ship, so copied that and washed on the background.

Photo edits

I edited these three images by computor to highlight different aspects of them. The first one is of lobster nets and I moved it around with straight lines to highlight the straight lines of the wood. The second one was multicoloured so I made the cackground black and white to let the buoys stand out with their bright orange colouring. The third one shows the seagulls habitat, the sky and the sea, as the sky has been made to look like water.

Watercolour Manet seascape

This is my art history copy of a Manet seascape. I used watercolour to create an abstract effect and not copy the image exactly.

Ropes and boats

I used the image of the rope for, first a pencil drawing, then four etchings. Also seen on the lower prep sheet are various art histories that I found and that influenced allot of my work. In the top right hand corner of the lower prep sheet is also a biro drawing of boats on the harbour. This is the same image as my final exam and shows it using different materials.

Buoys

I used pencil and ink for this to highlight the bright yellow of the buoys. These can be seen all over the harbour and in the sea around, so are a key element of my project.

Lobster nets in biro

I used biro to draw these lobster nets from one of my photos. I exaggerated the light and dark on this to enhance the picture as, with biro, you only have grey scale colours so I needed the exaggeration to portray different textures and colours.

Encounters: Scarborough harbour

I took these photos in Scarborough harbour for my exam topic of 'Encounters'. A harbour is the point where many boats first encounter the sea and the point where they make their very last encounter too.

I didn't just take photos of the boats though, as I wanted to include the ropes, nets and seagulls into my work. These pictures run throughout my entire exam topic where I have replicated these images in different style with different materials.

I liked the contrast between the smooth lines of the ropes, the geometrical shapes on the masts of the boats and the gentle movement of the sea.

The Body

These are my final pieces for 'the body' project. I chose to mix the body with fabric to show contrast between the soft shapes of the legs and the crisp lines of the fabric. Oil paints were used in these paintings and I found influence form pre Raphaelite artists.

These pre Raphaelite paintings really influenced my own paintings with the light and dark of the fabric and the soft tones of the skin.

Time: graphics clocks and evolution

This is one of my final pieces for my 'time' project. I used Photos of clocks then used biro over them and added the figures of evolution. I then added a real clock to the middle of my piece which added another dimension.

Time batik

This is one of the final outcomes for my time project. I used bright coloured inks and wax for the clock and contrasting background then cracked the wax and added black ink to create an aged effect for the clock to show ageing through time.

Dali clocks and image edits

I collected some art history from Salvador Dali as he uses clocks in his work. I also manipulated photos, one with the Dali clocks and the other with other clocks.

I then copied one of Dali's images using pencil and watercolour.

Cogs

I used biro to draw the cogs in the background then used a cut out photo of cogs to make it seem as if you were looking into the workings of a clock.
